Sister M. Matthias Kolinski, died on December 27, 2011 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio where she had lived since 1998.  The daughter of Ignatius and Theodora Kolinski, she was born on June 27, 1913 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  She came to the Sylvania Franciscans on June 23, 1931, just four days before her 18th birthday.  She professed her vows as a Sister of St. Francis on August 16, 1934 and her final vows on August 18, 1937. read more ...

Sister M. Alma Zigment, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 in Rosary Care Center in the Sylvania Franciscan Village.  The former Catherine Zigment was born to John and Agatha Zigment on December 30, 1916 in Duluth, Minnesota.  She professed her first vows on Ausuts17, 1936 and made her final profession on August 17, 1939.  She celebrated her 75th Anniversary as a Sylvania Franciscan in June of 2011. read more ...

Sister M. Eugene Wilk died September 1, 2011 in Rosary Care Center on the Motherhouse grounds of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania.  Born in 1919 in Detroit, Michigan, she entered the convent in 1939 and professed her final vows in 1945.  Sister Eugene spent most of her 69 years in religious life in the teaching ministry at the elementary and secondary school levels.  read more ...

Sylvania Franciscan Sister M. Rose Angela Muskala died on August 15, 2011 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio.  Sister Rose Angela was one of the four pioneer Sylvania Franciscans who taught at Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio when it opened in 1961.  She left for a 9 year stint at St. Ladislaus High School in Hamtramck, Michigan where she taught math and English and was principal for one year and then returned to Cardinal Stritch for 17 years of service. read more ...

Sister Virgilia Choy died on July 9, 2011 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. She was born in Fullerton, Nebraska and professed her final vows on August 18, 1944. Sister Virgilia spent her 70 years in religious life involved in all levels of the education ministry.  She began her ministry in 1940 by teaching in Catholic schools in Toledo, Minnesota, and Michigan 18 years. This was followed by her longest ministry, college teaching for 23 years at Lourdes College, Sylvania OH.  read more ...

Norbertine Zacharias died on June 5, 2011 at Rosary Care Center surrounded by her loving family members and friends.  Sister  was born on August 26, 1928 in Hamtramck, MI.  She professed her first vows as a Sister of St. Francis on August 18, 1949 and her final vows on August 18, 1952.  Her 62 years in religious life were filled with a variety of ministries mostly in education, business and health care. read more ...

Sister Alice Warrick died on May 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Bryan, TX where she had served as Vice President of Mission Integration for the St. Joseph Health System since 1999 until her death.  Sister Alice was born  Toledo, OH.  She professed her vows as a Sister of St. Francis on August 10, 1955 and her final vows on August 10, 1958.  Sister Alice spent her 56 years in religious life involved in a variety of ministries related to health care. read more ...

Rosaria Petra died on May 14, 2011 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, OH.  She was born  in Minneapolis, MN.  She professed her first vows on August 18, 1941 and final vows on August 18, 1944.  Sister Rosaria spent her 70 years in religious life involved in a variety of ministries. She taught in elementary schools, high schools and colleges in Michigan and Ohio.  read more ...

Sister M. Clarentia Lasko died on May 4, 2011 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio.  She professed her first vows on August 16, 1938 and her final vows on August 18, 1941.  Sister Clarentia taught for 61 years in elementary schools in Michigan and Wisconsin, 35 of those years at St. Ladislaus School in Hamtramck, MI.  She felt privileged to prepare the third graders for First Communion and helped many students conquer their difficulties with reading through her creative teaching and perseverance.  read more ...

Faber Narog died on May 1, 20ll at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio.  Sister was born in Minneapolis, MN.  She professed her first vows as a Sylvania Franciscan on August 18, 1941 and her final vows on August 18, 1944.  Sister Faber taught in elementary schools in Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan for 17 years and in high schools in Ohio and Michigan for 13 years.  read more ...

Sister M. Antonelle Slostech died on April 21, 2011 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she professed her first vows as a Sylvania Franciscan on August 18, 1946 and her final vows on August 18, 1949. Sister Antonelle taught for 36 years in elementary schools in Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota. She worked in parish ministry for 13 years at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Minneapolis, Minnesota until she came back to the Motherhouse. read more ...

Sister Mary Pius Serewa, OSF, died Saturday, January 30, 2011 in Rosary Care Center.  Born in Detroit, Michigan she entered the Sylvania Franciscans in 1944 and made her her final vows on August 18, 1947. Sister Mary Pius spent most of her life in ministry as an elementary teacher in schools in Ohio, Michigan, and Maryland for a total of 57 years. Thirty-eight of those years she spent in ministry at St. Hyacinth School and parish in Toledo, Ohio. read more ...
