Franciscan Evening Prayer
Join us every Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, Motherhouse Grounds
Following the Catholic tradition of praying throughout the day, the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania gather for evening prayer, or “Vespers”, in Queen of Peace Chapel. This service follows the tradition known as the Liturgy of the Hours where vowed religious and lay members of the church take time to recite prayer and sing songs of praise at certain times each day.
Evening prayer is meant to give thanks for all of the blessings we have received that day. It consists of an opening prayer, hymn, psalms, Scripture reading, excerpts from the life of Francis, petitions, closing prayer and blessing. Join us at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and end your day in thankful prayer.
Third Tuesday for Peace Prayer Service
Please join us each third Tuesday of the month from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel, Motherhouse Grounds
It is our charism to be peacemakers as followers of Francis and Clare. In 2005 the Holy Hour for Peace began with an invitation from the Sisters of St. Francis and Associates to invite nearby communities to pray for peace. The holy hour includes prayers, reflective readings, Scripture, music, and visuals such as films, and posters.
The prayer for peace reflects our commitment in our mission statement. Gathering in prayer with our Sisters, Associates, neighbors, relatives and friends strengthens us on our journey. Peace signs are placed at various places on our grounds. The word Peace is in English, Arabic and Hebrew to remind us of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian Faiths.
Peace and all good.
