The Art Lecture Series is named after Sister Jane Mary Sorosiak, OSF an accomplished teacher and artist, whose ceramic and mural works are installed across the nation.  This will be the second lecture in the series, which include a variety of topics related to the arts.  The 2012 lecture presents Brian Kennedy, Ph.D., Director of The Toledo Museum of Art who will talk on the topic: "Censorship in the Arts." read more ...

The number of beaches presenting potential health threats increases each year. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, one major culprit is overdevelopment, which removes natural filters like wetlands and trees. Especially after a heavy rain, waste water can run undiluted down to the beach and pollute the water. Beach advisories and closings generally are based on measurement of bacteria levels. In his encyclical on ecumenism, the late Pope John Paul II admitted that the papacy, which Catholics see as an instrument of unity, had become for many an obstacle to Christian unity.  What the pope said of the papacy could be said as well of Catholic understandings of church authority in general.  In this presentation, Dr. Gaillardetz will explore the deeper issues underlying questions of church authority in ecumenical dialogue and will propose some practical measures that might advance ecumenical conversation on the topic. read more ...
