2007 Goals and Objectives
Sylvania Franciscan Justice and Peace Focus Group
Goal The Justice and Peace Focus Group will be the energizer and coordinator of issues of justice and peace for the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania Ohio and their Associates. This will be done by
- meeting people where they are in their journeys
- making connections between beauty, peace and justice
- and stressing the underlying theme of “becoming reconcilers.”

Objectives
1. To serve as an active resource for initiatives which link all Sylvania Franciscans in the spirituality of justice and peace.
2. To encourage all Sylvania Franciscans to take action on at least one justice and peace issue in whatever way they can.
3. To continue to focus on issues on which Sylvania Franciscans have taken a corporate stance and support new initiatives on current issues. These will be organized under the umbrella of the Earth Charter and its four principles:
I. Respect and Care for the Community of Life
1. Death penalty
2. Human trafficking
3. Darfur
4. Torture
II. Ecological Integrity
1. Water
2. Consumerism
3. Global warming
III. Social and Economic Justice
IV. Democracy, Non-violence, and Peace
1. Peace
2. Nuclear weapons
3. SOA
4. The war in Iraq
5. To continue communication with all Sylvania Franciscans through the Justice and Peace Focus Newsletter, reflection cards, the Action Alert Network (E-mail), the congregational website, and activities which include Sandal Day and Peace Parties.
6. To educate ourselves by reporting at each meeting on information gained from memberships in various justice and peace organizations.
7. To survey Sylvania Franciscans about which issues of justice and peace they are concerned about and what actions they have taken regarding them.
8. To serve as a resource for Pine Cone Initiatives, Haiti Stateside, the Spirituality Center, LCC Representatives and Earth Charter Task Force.
9. To continue to promote and facilitate Clare’s Pence.
10. To increase active membership in the Justice and Peace Focus Group.
